Course Description:

RATIONALE

This module will explore the contemporary concept of person-centred care, focusing on working with people as equal partners in the planning and delivery of care. You will gain the knowledge and skills to provide care that is both respectful and responsive, tailored to individual preferences, needs and values, advocating on behalf of people where appropriate. You will also learn to work in partnership with the wider inter-professional team to inform decisions relating to care as well as families and informal carers.

This module will enable you to develop, and build upon, the skills required by the adult nurse that enable effective interaction with, and care of, individuals throughout the lifespan. Through the exploration of holistic care, you will develop an understanding of the complex nature of health and health interventions.

AIMS

1. This module will enable you to develop the skills required to work in partnership with people, the people important to them, the nursing team and the wider multi-disciplinary and multiagency team, in diverse care environments.

2. You will explore the principles underpinning person-centred care, the complexities of holistic care and the importance of self-awareness, emotional intelligence, self-management and professionalism.

LEARNING OUTCOMES

On completion of this module the student will be able to:

1. Appraise the concept of person-centred, holistic care.

2. Identify the complexities of partnership working and the impact of organisational factors on adult nursing practice.

3. Demonstrate an understanding of the principles of safe, effective care.

4. Reflect on personal, professional and organisational factors contributing to the development of the therapeutic relationship
