Contemporary Perspectives on Leading and Managing Care

RATIONALE

Adult Nurses are increasingly expected to lead and manage care and take on autonomous and advanced practice roles in a range of settings. This module will consolidate and build upon previous learning and will introduce you to new concepts and will: strengthen your ability to lead and support a team, build your resilience and will give you the skills to drive service innovation. This module will provide the opportunity to develop knowledge and to demonstrate sophisticated application of an appropriate evidence base.

AIMS

On completion of this module, you will be able to your ability to lead and manage the care of patients with differing needs in diverse care environments. You will be provided with the opportunity to develop your role in service-user management and associated skills, including prioritising care, negotiating, decision-making, delegation, time management, team building and supporting the learning of others. In addition, you will be enabled to act as a role model to junior colleagues, to supervise, coach and lead others within complex care contexts.

Emphasis will be placed upon self-awareness, emotional intelligence and self-management. Critically analysing practice will allow you to safeguard the health and wellbeing of service users. These aspects of practice will promote your understanding of inter-professional relationships and will provide further opportunities to work with other professional groups and fields of practice.

LEARNING OUTCOMES

1. Critically explore how contemporary management and key aspects of leadership styles impact on organisational culture, inter-agency team relationships and nursing practices.

2. Critically evaluate how the role of quality assurance, clinical governance, local, national and international initiatives steer healthcare quality.

3. Critically reflect upon responsiveness to uncertain and unplanned situations, evidencing both emotional intelligence and resilience skills.

4. Demonstrate your ability to coach and supervise a range of learners, whilst demonstrating critical awareness of self as you transition from a student to registered nurse
