Course Description:

RATIONALE
The dissertation demands a high level of individual application and commitment to
research. It provides students with an opportunity to identify, reflect on and explore a
topic in significant detail. That topic should fall under one or more of the following
broader themes: organization, management, work, business. Your research may
constitute either a traditional academic project or an applied management report.


AIMS
 To enable the student to have an opportunity to undertake a substantial piece
of independent work in a problem area of particular interest
 To allow students to demonstrate their understanding of research methods,
research methodology and their application
 To provide an opportunity for students to relate their learning in taught modules
to the analysis of a problem relevant to their Masters programme


LEARNING OUTCOMES
On successful completion of this module, the student will be able to:
 Design an appropriate and feasible research plan
 Select and develop appropriate research instruments and deliver a purposeful
inquiry underpinned by primary and/or secondary data conducted ethically and
transparently
 Analyse, interpret and critically evaluate quantitative and/or qualitative data
 Analyse issues raised by the data in light of theoretical knowledge in such a
way that rigorous conclusions are formed
 Write a succinct and convincing dissertation of 12,000 – 15,000 words
