Course Description:

RATIONALE
This module engages the law of contract under common law. Students will examine the principles, policies and practical applications of contract law from a variety of perspectives. They will develop a thorough understanding of how contractual obligations are formed and regulated, how legal principles and concepts are used to identify and resolve legal problems, and the function of contracts in society and the economy. Students will be able to engage critically with academic legal discourses on major issues in contract law and interconnections with other areas of the law of obligations. Students will have ample opportunity to develop stronger legal research skills and the application of legal principles to practical situations.

AIMS
●    Examine the concepts, principles and policy considerations in contract law.
●    Critically analyse a range of theoretical perspectives in contract law and associated aspects of the broader field of the law of obligations.
●    Critically examine the elements for the formation of a contract and its breach, together with remedies available.
●    Evaluate and apply substantive legal principles to factual situations.

LEARNING OUTCOMES
On successful completion of this module students will be able to:
1.    Critically discuss the concepts and principles of contract law.
2.    Critically examine the elements for the formation of a contract, its breach and the applicable remedies available. 
3.    Analyse theoretical perspectives in contract law.
4.    Evaluate and apply substantive legal principles to factual situations to solve legal problems.
