Course Description:

RATIONALE 

Project management is vital to the success of organizations working in an environment of ever-increasing complexity, and with rapid technological advancements. This module covers the theoretical principles and practical techniques for managing projects, and includes project definition, initiation, planning, execution, control and closure. Project management techniques will help students with other subjects in the degree program because it strengthens organizational skills, critical analysis, the ability to prioritize, and will provide the skill set and attitude that employers favour from our graduates.   

AIMS 

Through the completion of this module students will: 

  • Learn how to recognise the main project phases and characteristics     
  • Be able to balance the cost and quality of a project 
  • Be engaged with the process of stakeholder management and its implications for project success.   

LEARNING OUTCOMES 

On successful completion of this module, the student will be able to: 

  1. Understand and define project management and the characteristics of projects. 
  2. Recognise and evaluate the different phases of a project at any point of its progression. 
  3. Plan a project with confidence, taking account of the various stakeholders in the project, and understanding how these might impact on the success of the project. 
  4. Ensure good control and management of projects.
