Course Description:

RATIONALE 

This module focuses on the role of Human Resource Strategy as a key constituent of the business strategy of an organisation. It builds on concepts first introduced in the Analysing Organisational Behaviour and Designing and Delivering HR Activities modules at Level 5 to explore ways in which organisational performance can be enhanced by adopting a strategic approach to managing human resources. Students will develop skills and knowledge in relation to the management of people which will enhance their employability in any managerial career. 

AIMS 

Through the completion of this module students will:  

  • Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the main differentiating features and characteristics of the strategic human resource management paradigm; 
  • Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the complex relationships between business strategy and human resource management; 
  • Appreciate the contribution that strategic human resource management can make to promoting and achieving the organisation’s strategic intent; 
  • Understand the different ways in which HRM can be strategically pursued within organisations and its links with organisational performance. 

LEARNING OUTCOMES 

On successful completion of this module, a student will be able to: 

  1. Critically evaluate the conceptual framework contributing to the HRM perspective.  
  2. Assess how to shape the HR strategy of an organisation in support of its business strategy.  
  3. Evaluate key HR issues which critically impact on organisational performance and strategic direction
