Course Description:
RATIONALE
The module introduces the concepts of web design, with a focus on designing responsive web sites that are targeted at mobile platforms. Students are introduced to HTML, CSS and JavaScript to provide them with the understanding of what goes into the front end of modern web sites. Using a series of case studies, students will analyse the design and layout of a range of existing sites using a number of common analysis techniques.
AIMS
The aims of the module are:
- To give a basic introduction to the concepts of responsive web design.
- To introduce students to relevant HCI theory and history.
- To broaden the students’ knowledge and understanding of design methods.
- To provide students with the ability to evaluate user interfaces.
- To develop the students’ communication skills.
LEARNING OUTCOMES
- On successful completion of this module, a student will be able to:
- Critically discuss the history and theory of web design.
- Plan, visualize and communicate the elements of a user interface.
- Develop a functional responsive web site for desktop and mobile browsing.
