Distributed and Cloud Computing
Course Title: Distributed and Cloud Computing
Course Code: UMDCOM303
Programme: BSc (Hons) Computing
Credits: 20.00
Course Description:
Rationale
With the growth of the Internet computing-based devices are no longer isolated from each other. That devices may range from a classical desktop computer through to a kitchen refrigerator. Indeed, with the Internet-of-Everything there is no need to constrain the interactions possible. Within the degree pathway topics such as software design and security, networking, multimedia, cloud and Internet technologies have been explored; when devices are related this module is the means of tying them together.
Aims
Through the completion of this module students will gain:
- An understanding of the growing networking environment within which distributed systems (operating systems, services and applications) exist and therefore the need for distributed systems
- The ability to identify the appropriate design strategy for a given scenario
- An understanding of the operation of distributed systems
Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of this module, a student will have:
- demonstrated a conceptual understanding of the need for distributed systems (operating systems, services and applications) and the principles upon which they are based
- after analysis and enquiry deployed accurately the appropriate architecture for a given situation
- demonstrated a comprehensive knowledge and systematic understanding of distributed system structure, operation and behaviour
Typical Module duration: 8.0 Week(s)
